Blind Taste Test #1 - Lower Proof Bourbon Edition
I've always been incredibly curious about blind taste tests, for anyone that doesn't know this is when you taste a bunch of bourbon without knowing exactly what you are consuming, so that preconceived ideas, hype, etc... are taken out of the equation and a bourbon is based purely off of it's qualities. I've messed around with mini blind taste tastings for myself and another friend, which have been a fun experience. Those small tastings were to get an idea of what I planned t

Rock Hill Farms Bourbon
If you've been involved with bourbon for more than a day, you've heard the name, "Buffalo Trace Distillery." It would be impossible not to, seriously, it's considered one of the top 3 distilleries out there. This distillery is responsible for the highly sought after Van Winkle Collection and Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, both of which command a hefty little price tag per bottle on the secondary market. Buffalo Trace Distillery makes a wide variety of bourbons and ryes,

Rowan's Creek Bourbon
In the world of bourbon, many people who've been involved in some higher end whiskey knows of Willett Distillery due to their gift shop releases of Willett Family Estate Bourbon and Willett Family Estate Rye, both of which are sourced from another distillery, nonetheless, have the Willett name attached them. Willett is less known for a couple of their other offerings due to not directly stating Willett Distillery on the bottle. One of those offerings is Rowan's Creek, which

Top 10 Best Bourbon & Ryes for Beginners
Bourbon and Rye whiskeys are two of the best things to have ever been invented. Not just in the form of liquids, but in anything that has ever been created. As a huge bourbon and rye enthusiast I may be slightly biased, so just take my word for it. You'll soon see what I mean. When you head to the liquor store, it can quickly become overwhelming once you walk over to the bourbon and rye area. This is the latest liquor to explode, it went from being considered just a drink

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel
If you ask me which distillery I really enjoy and am constantly satisfied with their offerings, it would be a toss up between Buffalo Trace Distillery and Wild Turkey Distillery. Wild Turkey has a bunch of heavy hitters and have been producing great bourbons for a long time. Semi-retired Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell, has been in the craft for over 65 years, how can you go wrong with someone who has that much experience. The Master Distiller role now falls on the shoulde

Angel's Envy Bourbon
The bottle originally attracted me to giving this bourbon a try. Angel's Envy recently just opened a brand new distillery in Louisville, KY. The company used aspects of marketing and a unique appealing finish in port wine barrels to garner attention. Age: Non-Age Stated. It's believed to be roughly about 6 years in the american oak barrels with another 3-6 months in French Oak ruby port casks. Proof: 86.6 Distillery: Angel's Envy Distillery Mashbill: No Information Price:

WhistlePig 10yr Straight Rye
Living in MA leaves me partial to local whiskeys, but sadly due to the lack of age many fall short. Some have shown promise, but one local New England distillery that holds it's own with other ryes and/or bourbons would be WhistlePig in Shoreham, VT. Like a few other distillers, especially a powerhouse like Smooth Ambler out of West Virginia, WhistlePig has sourced in order to be able to have older whiskey. Similar to Smooth Ambler, they are beginning to barrel their own pr

Johnny Drum Private Stock
Johnny Drum has an interesting history, having originally started back in the 1960s from Thompson Willett at the Willettt distillery. It was originally bottled exclusively for a wholesaler in California. While the current Johnny Drum is different from the original, it still has a storied past, which makes this bourbon worth consuming. Currently there are three different types of Johnny Drum: - Green Label - Low Shelf; 80 proof. - Black Label - Mid Shelf; 86 proof.
- Priva

Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch Bottled-In-Bond
Colonel E.H. Taylor (CEHT) is a brand made at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, one of the most respected distilleries in the market. Off the top of my head, I don't think I've ever tasted a bad bourbon from them, this leaves high hopes for what's about to hit my lips. The CEHT brand has been releasing some great limited releases mixed with their yearly offerings: - Small Batch (Yearly) - Single Barrel (Yearly) - Barrel Proof (Yearly) - Straight Rye (Yearly)
- Old Fashioned Sou
